Ajax has honoured Sjaak Swart by naming a balcony at De Toekomst after him. The ceremony took place ahead of the Eredivisie match against Willem II, which Ajax later won 5-1.
The 88-year-old Swart, nicknamed 'Mister Ajax', made his debut for the club seventy years ago and played 603 official matches. No other player has made more appearances for Ajax. The club's supporters' association initiated the tribute. Swart is a regular visitor to De Toekomst to watch the youth teams.
"The balcony that overlooks the main pitch, where Swart is present almost daily to watch the Ajax youth," Swart said about the location. The recognition came before an audience that witnessed Saturday's 5-1 victory over Willem II, with goals from the likes of Kasper Dolberg and Oscar Gloukh. Ajax currently sits fourth in the Eredivisie with thirteen points from six games.
