AFC Ajax has loaned goalkeeper Paul Reversen to De Graafschap for the upcoming season. The 21-year-old Ghanaian keeper joins the nineteenth-placed team in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, as reported by Voetbal International this week.

The loan agreement includes an option to buy for De Graafschap. Reversen, who has yet to make his official debut for Ajax's first team, will compete with Ties Wieggers for the starting spot in Doetinchem.

Who is Paul Reversen?

Paul Reversen joined Ajax's youth academy in 2013. After a brief spell at AFC, he returned to Amsterdam. For Jong Ajax, he played thirty matches in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. This season, Joeri Heerkens was preferred in goal for the reserve team. Heerkens conceded fourteen goals in the first five matches.

The loan is designed to give Reversen experience at a higher level. De Graafschap's technical manager Berry Powel is pleased with the arrival. "We are happy to add Paul to our goalkeeper team", Powel said. "With his ball-playing qualities he fits our style of play well, and he also possesses strong reflexes."

How does this fit into the current Ajax squad?

Reversen's loan move comes as Ajax's first team enjoys a strong start to the season. The Amsterdammers are fourth in the Eredivisie with seven points from three games. The team has two wins and a draw, with recent form of WDW. Ajax has scored eight goals and conceded just two, giving them a goal difference of plus six.

In the title race, Ajax trails leaders AZ Alkmaar by five points. The next challenge is a home match against PSV Eindhoven on 5 September 2026. PSV currently sits second in the table. Fans can find the full schedule on our fixtures page.

What did Reversen say himself?

The goalkeeper expressed enthusiasm about his new opportunity. "I am really looking forward to the coming season", Reversen said via De Graafschap's club channels. "Last year, playing with Jong Ajax at De Vijverberg already made an impression on me."

Reversen will be immediately available for manager Jan Vreman. De Graafschap hopes the arrival of the Ajax goalkeeper will bring stability to a defence in need of points. The current Keuken Kampioen Divisie standings can be followed on our standings page.

The loan deal runs until the end of the 2026-2027 season. Ajax thus retains a young keeper within the organisation while Reversen can gather playing time at a level higher than with Jong Ajax. The complete Ajax squad is always available on our squad overview.

Ajax's first team next plays on 5 September 2026 against PSV at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
