Transfer details
Josip Sutalo, the Croatian central defender, announced his departure from Ajax via Instagram. Ajax had signed him in the summer of 2023 for €20.5 million from Dinamo Zagreb. He is now leaving on a one-year loan to Lazio. The Italian club pays a loan fee of €3 million and takes over his full annual salary of €2.5 million.
Personal message
In his post Sutalo wrote: "Three years in red and white. For now it is time for a new chapter." He thanked teammates, coaches, staff and supporters. "It was an honour to join the Club of 100. Being an Ajacied is a privilege," he wrote. "Thank you for everything!"
Financial aspects
Besides the loan fee, Lazio has an option to buy for €7.5 million. According to De Telegraaf, additional bonuses could raise the total transfer sum to between €12 million and €15 million. Ajax retains a right to ten percent of the profit on a future resale.
Future possibilities
Sutalo remains under contract with Ajax until mid-2028. In Rome he will meet former teammate Kenneth Taylor, who moved to Lazio in the winter of last year.
Concrete detail
The Croatian international will spend a year in Rome, while Ajax benefits from a potential future sale and a €7.5 million option.
