AFC Ajax had a great opportunity to transfer Luka Modric in the past. According to Joey Didulica, the former goalkeeper of Ajax, Modric was open to a transfer to the Amsterdam club. Didulica played with Modric in the Croatian national team and was impressed by his technique and insight. He described Modric as a player who reminded him of Johan Cruijff. Didulica contacted Ajax icon Sjaak Swart and told him about Modric's qualities. He thought that Ajax should do everything to bring him to Amsterdam. Modric himself was also interested in a transfer to Ajax and saw the club as an attractive step in his career. But ultimately, the transfer never materialized. Modric grew into a world star and won numerous awards, including multiple Champions Leagues. Didulica thinks that the missed opportunity to sign Modric is one of the biggest missed opportunities in Ajax's recent transfer history. Other players have also shown interest in a transfer to Ajax, but Modric was a special player. So Ajax missed a great chance to get one of the best midfielders of his generation. But Didulica is still proud of the time he played for Ajax and the experiences he had. He thinks that Ajax is still a big club and that they will have success again in the future.
