Tolu Arokodare has expressed his desire to stay at Ajax permanently. The 24-year-old Nigerian striker, on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, outlined two key conditions for a permanent move on Thursday.
Arokodare, who scored his first goal in Wednesday's 2-0 Conference League win over Atalanta, said a salary increase must be part of any deal. "And maybe increase my salary," the forward said. The final decision rests with the two clubs, with a fee of €20 million reported to secure his services. "That's between Ajax and Wolves; I can't say anything about it. Tell that to Ajax," Arokodare responded.
The striker came on in the 66th minute for Marcos Leonardo and made an immediate impact. He opened the scoring in the 87th minute after controlling a long ball from Youri Baas and later provided the assist for Abdellah Ouazane's clincher. That victory was Ajax's first in the Conference League after an opening loss to Hajduk Split.
The club currently sits fourth in the Eredivisie with 18 points from nine games, a record of five wins, three draws and one loss. They are five points behind leaders Feyenoord. Ajax have scored 27 goals and conceded 12 this season. The team is in good form with two consecutive wins, reflecting their recent form of two wins, two draws and one loss from their last five matches. Following the 2-0 win over Atalanta and the 5-2 victory at Groningen, the next fixture comes quickly: an away match at Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday 25 October. Julian Brandt is the current top scorer with six goals in nine appearances. The full squad and current standings are available online.
Arokodare emphasised his happiness at the Amsterdam club, feeling at home since his arrival. His future will depend on negotiations between the boards. Ajax play away at Sparta Rotterdam, who are 14th in the table, on Sunday.
