Simon Adingra will not travel with the AFC Ajax squad for Thursday's UEFA Conference League match against Hajduk Split. The winger made his debut last weekend but is not fit enough for the trip to Croatia.

The club confirmed the news ahead of the team's departure. Adingra came on for the final 30 minutes in Saturday's 1-1 draw with NEC Nijmegen but did not finish the game fully fit. He trained separately from the group on Wednesday. His absence limits manager John van 't Schip's options for a key European fixture.

Opportunity for Ouazane

With Adingra unavailable and Oscar Gloukh struggling for consistency, Abdellah Ouazane is in line to start. The young forward has only started three games in all competitions this season but now gets a significant chance. "He has the potential to become one of the best players in the world," Ouazane said of a teammate, a sentiment that now applies to his own opportunity. Ajax needs to ease the 19-year-old into the role of a regular starter, whether on the left wing or in a more central position.

Other absentees

Yves Bissouma is also missing. The midfielder, who joined in September, could no longer be registered for the Conference League group phase. Defender Anton Gaaei did not train with the group as he continues his recovery from injury. Daley Blind, Caio Henrique and Steven Berghuis remain unfit.

Goalkeeper Aymean El Hani and forward Mohamed Abdalla are among those included. Abdalla made his debut in July in the qualifying match against FK Vojvodina and scored immediately. The squad departed on Wednesday morning following a training session at De Toekomst.

Adingra's absence comes as Ajax sit fifth in the Eredivisie with 15 points from eight games. Their last result was a 1-1 home draw with NEC. Supporters can follow the current standings and upcoming fixtures on the site. The match in Split kicks off at III:45 on Thursday.
