Ajax looks for a new right-winger

Ajax hopes to have found the new right-winger at Girona. With Viktor Tsygankov (28) the coach Míchel Sánchez trusts an old acquaintance. The 67-time Ukrainian international is technically very skilled, but does not play as a typical wing-attacker.

Tsygankov: more playmaker than winger

Since his appointment at Ajax, Míchel Sánchez repeatedly spoke about a lack of depth. He missed players who aggressively attacked the attacking spaces with runs. The Ajax coach had already communicated his wishes before the sale of Mika Godts. "If Mika leaves, we need two new wingers," Míchel said after the win at PEC Zwolle (0-2). "Not only for the left side, but also for the right zone. Because you know that Steven Berghuis is not the type of player that brings much depth. We need those qualities. So if Mika leaves, we must bring in two wingers."

Depth and depth of play

In light of those quotes, the upcoming arrival of Tsygankov is remarkable. Although he brings more depth than Berghuis, the Ukrainian has played more as a roaming playmaker than as a direct winger in recent years.
