Ajax Plan Series of Right-Flank Additions
Ajax is preparing for a busy final stretch of the summer transfer window, with plans to bolster both their right-winger and right-back positions.
A Range of Additions
Ajax has already been busy bringing in several players. Marc-André ter Stegen's arrival at Ajax was finally confirmed, along with Caio Henrique, Daley Blind, Tolu Arokodare, Marcos Leonardo, and Julian Brandt.
The sale of Sean Steur to Newcastle United for a potential maximum fee of €27 million is another piece of the puzzle. Paris Saint-Germain has also shown interest in Mika Godts, but Ajax wants to negotiate a transfer fee over €60 million.
Right-Winger and Right-Back
Ajax aims to strengthen both positions: right-back and right-winger. According to Lentin Goodijk of Voetbal International, Ajax is interested in signing a winger who can hold the width, dominate in one-on-one situations, and create chances.
Steven Berghuis is not seen as a 'pure winger', and Maher Carrizo, who joined Ajax in January, still needs time to become an important figure. If Anton Gaaei leaves, Ajax would be interested in signing a right-back who can stay deeper, help with build-up play, and act as the third central defender when his team has possession.
Bart van Rooij?
ESPN reported that Ajax was interested in FC Twente's Bart van Rooij for the right-back position. Van Rooij fits the desired profile of being able to become a third centre-back when his team has the ball.
The report said that Ajax found Twente's €10 million asking price too high and hoped to reach an agreement with Enschede. However, various reports have since claimed that Ajax is no longer considering a move for the Twente right-back.
