AFC Ajax will play a charity match against FC Barcelona Legends on 15 November. The Legacy Match at the Johan Cruijff ArenA is a tribute to Johan Cruyff, with all proceeds going to the Johan Cruyff Foundation.

The club has confirmed a squad of twelve Ajax legends. Patrick Kluivert, Wesley Sneijder and Rafael van der Vaart are among the names set to feature. The match kicks off at 14:30 and will be broadcast live on Ziggo Sport. Tickets are available via the official Ajax website.

Tribute to an icon

The match date, 15 November, is symbolic. On that day in 1964, Johan Cruyff made his official debut for Ajax. Cruyff, who passed away in 2016, played and worked for both clubs and is honoured globally. The foundation he established in 1997 uses the funds to build Cruyff Courts and support sports projects for children worldwide.

The current Ajax squad sits fourth in the Eredivisie with 18 points from nine games, having recorded five wins, three draws and one loss. John van 't Schip's team travels to Sparta Rotterdam, who are 13th, for their next league fixture on Saturday 24 October. Their last five matches yielded two wins, two draws and one defeat, a run that began with a 5-1 victory over Willem II and a 5-1 win against Fortuna Sittard. The most recent result was a 5-2 win at Groningen last Sunday, in which Julian Brandt scored twice, taking his season tally to six goals. Ajax have scored 27 league goals and conceded 12, giving them a goal difference of plus fifteen. The team trails leaders Feyenoord by five points. The match against the Barcelona legends comes during a busy period but offers a welcome break from league commitments.

The organisation of the Legacy Match highlights the enduring bond between the club and its greatest icon. The event promises to be a celebration of memories in the middle of the season.
