Ajax proved once again as a comeback team by defeating FC Sion 4-2 in the Conference League playoff. The Amsterdammers took control in the second half after a 1-0 lead from the Swiss opponent. The second leg will be played next week at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Julian Brandt, Marcos Leonardo, Tolu Arokodare, and Davy Klaassen scored the goals.

In the first half, Ajax created several chances but failed to convert. Leonardo missed a clear opportunity, Berghuis shot wide, and Brandt's shot was saved. Sion took the lead after 34 minutes when Surdez capitalized on space from Gaaei. The Swiss side came close to a second goal before halftime, but Ter Stegen saved.

Michel made a substitution in the second half, bringing on Jorthy Mokio for Regeer. Ajax equalized after 8 minutes with a shot from Brandt from distance. Leonardo made it 2-1 after a cross from Gaaei. Sion received a penalty in the 71st minute, but Chouaref equalized. Arokodare gave Ajax the lead with a header after a substitution. Klaassen sealed the win with a chip in the 87th minute.
