AFC Ajax has reached an agreement with Míchel on his move to Amsterdam. The Spaniard signs a contract as head coach for two seasons. Míchel began his coaching career at Rayo Vallecano and stood two years at the helm of the club from his hometown. He made the move to SD Huesca in the summer of 2019 and was the head coach of Girona FC for the past five seasons. At the Catalan club, he achieved the highest ranking in the club's history, when Girona FC finished third in La Liga in the 2023/2024 season. As a player, Míchel also started at Rayo Vallecano. In addition, the former midfielder played for the clubs Almería CF, Real Murcia CF and Málaga CF. Jordi Cruijff, technical director of AFC Ajax, provided more explanation for the choice of Míchel. "Míchel is an ambitious and demanding coach. He will bring his vision and his intense way of working to our team, I am convinced of that. I know him well and have been following him for years. His way of working fits Ajax. That he has worked for five seasons at the same club in La Liga says something about his qualities and his loyalty." Míchel also spoke about his move to AFC Ajax. "It feels good to be here, I am proud to take this next step in my career. Ajax is a big name in Europe, a club that always produces young and good players. Jordi knows me from my work in Spain, we have spoken about the philosophy of the club, about how I work and how that will come together. He has expressed full confidence in me and together with the other people in the club we start a new challenge. The goal is to get Ajax back to where it belongs and I have every confidence that this will happen."
