AFC Ajax has signed 16-year-old defender Enes Isik until summer 2029. The Turkish youth international played in April in the Future Cup with Ajax O17. Isik was born in December 2009 in Zoetermeer and previously played for DHC Delft and Excelsior. He moved to the Amsterdam club at the age of 14. Director of Football Marijn Beuker is pleased with the signing of Isik. 'Enes is an intelligent, left-footed defender with many footballing qualities. He plays with courage, dares to dribble and often creates an advantage.' Isik played in April with Ajax O17 in the Future Cup. Although the team of trainer Stan Bijl was eliminated in the semifinals, the Dutch Turk made a strong impression during the prestigious tournament. The left-footed central defender played a key role in the build-up of Ajax O17, which often attacked through him. Isik distinguished himself particularly with his calmness and quality on the ball. He regularly found teammates between the lines with precise passes, while his long balls to the depth were also accurate and well-timed. In addition to his qualities in possession, Isik showed that he had taken defensive steps. The defender dared to defend forward and did not shy away from taking the initiative, which allowed him to neutralize several dangerous situations early on. He also made a strong impression in individual duels; many strikers on the tournament had visible trouble getting past him.
