AFC Ajax's Jonna van de Velde has been named 'Player of the Year' after finishing the season with a pass accuracy of 88.9 percent. The defender/midfielder impressed throughout the season with her reliability in possession, high speed of action, and complete contribution to both build-up and defensive work. Van de Velde (24) has been under contract with Ajax since 2019. She finished the season with a pass accuracy of 88.9 percent from 1,775 passes, the highest percentage among all players in the Women's Eredivisie with at least 1,500 passes. In the build-up on the opponent's half, Van de Velde was also of great value. She recorded 785 passes in that part of the field with an accuracy of 82.3 percent. This makes her one of the best-performing midfielders in the competition in terms of forward play and moving the game towards the final phase. In addition to her role in possession, Van de Velde also showed her value defensively. She won a total of 60 ground duels, making her one of the strongest players in the Ajax Women's team in this regard. She also made 17 interceptions. Her influence was also reflected in the team's lineup. Van de Velde often played alongside other key players in the starting lineup, including Regina van Eijk (18 games), Danique Noordman (17), and Sherida Spitse (16). This underlines that she is a certainty for coach Anouk Bruil. The Player of the Year award was first presented at Ajax in 2021. Below is an overview of the winners to date: • 2026: Jonna van de Velde (see AFC Ajax website) • 2025: Isa Kardinaal • 2024: Sherida Spitse • 2023: Sherida Spitse • 2022: Romée Leuchter • 2021: Victoria Pelova
